River Park Profile
Bordered by H Street on the south, the American River on the north and east, and the Southern Pacific Railroad on the west, the River Park neighborhood is a nature-lover’s paradise. Two famed parks are situated within the River Park district, as well as a large riverside habitat, a dense tree population and two public entrances to the American River.
River Park was recently recognized in Sacramento Magazine as one of the best neighborhoods in Sacramento. The thriving community is a blend of older homeowners who originally moved to the area in the 1950s and 1960s and young families who are just starting out. The Carlson Drive shopping center houses a variety of neighborhood businesses including a market, dry cleaners, beauty salon, dentist and two restaurants.
Activities and Events
The River Park Neighborhood Association sponsors annual events such as the Fourth of July kids’ bicycle parade and festival, Pops in the Park concert and Screen on the Green outdoor movie nights. River park also has several clubs and organizations, as well as youth soccer and baseball leagues, and other committees that promote community organization and spirit.
In addition to easy access to Sacramento State University, River Park has the distinction of having the only elementary school in the district featuring the PYP International Baccalaureate Program (the acclaimed Caleb Greenwood Elementary School).
